I was fortunate enough to have a precious 2 hours in my studio today. I made some progress but the face and torso look really wacky to me. This work is very different in terms of the face and the full length figure. I am use to working with larger features. Her features are so tiny but not quite right. I will be fiddling some more for sure. The skin tones need artist crayon work yet and I have more to do in the background and more work on the little bird that I added as an after thought. I added more dept to her clothes and those have shaped up nicely. Kris suggested flowers in her hair and I like that idea too. So hopefully I can hit the studio tomorrow. Although, I may be heading to the clinic for a throat swab. My throat is on fire and this cough and congestion is hanging on like a demon!

I think she's just beautiful. Remember, we are our own worst critics. Love the addition of the bird. I just can't get over how you can add so much texture. I'd love to see how you do the face with the crayons. I've never done faces. Scary. ha Happy Easter to you. May God bless your life today.

I started doing faces with big exagerated features. I just drew a face from my mind. I was not satisfied though because while the features were ok, nothing was in proportion in terms of placement on the face. Being a lazy kind of person, I took a "faces" class on line from Paulette Insall. I was a little dubious at first about on line instruction but she did a wonderful job and I practiced like she said and now at least I can get things in proportion. I often use great masters works to "copy" from changing up the shape of features or colors etc.. and I often use my own girls (photos) as inspiration. This one is from some great master (can't remember who but was not one of the familiar ones). Faces are not that scary to me anymore. I will never be a John Singer-Sargent or Cassat or you name it but at least I can say I am satisfied with my progress. As far as artist crayons... For my next update I will highlight what I use. I often change from the crayons to water soluble oil pastels depending on my mood.

My oh my, much has happened in your world since I checked last (we were away for Spring Break). I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Cindy. You gave her a wonderful tribute and have strong, good memories. Sometimes that's all you can do.
As for your work, don't be so hard on yourself. You've had a death to contend with as well as sickness. You have a beautiful start on this piece and it will fall together.
The bird in the corner was a great addition. The dress is flowing and moves nicely. The face will eventually become who you want her to be.
I can't wait to hear about the crayons and oil pastels. I just started using the oils on my altered photographs and LOVE them.
